Off-campus Housing

Off-campus Student Services provides a variety of housing resources

  • Start your housing search as soon as possible. Do not wait until you arrive in the US. There is a lot of demand for housing in the Washington DC area. Start your search by talking to friends or current students and by reviewing the website http://och.gmu.edu.
  • When you have identified one or more suitable properities, research public transportation.  Is there a bus or metro stop closeby? How will I travel to campus?
  • Also make sure it fits with your class schedule. Some classes run as late as 10:10 pm. Is there still a bus or metro around 10:30 pm?
  • Be prepared to pay the first month’s rent and security deposit (equal to one month’s rent or two months' rent) upon signing the lease.
  • Does the lease include utilities and/or furniture?
  • To save money, consider renting a room in a house. To find it on http://och.gmu.edu, click on "advanced search" and look for a sublet or sublease.
